A link to the 9th grade course selection sheet is provided below.   All incoming 9th grade students need to fill this form out as part of the registration process.  All scheduling requests or updates must be submitted by June 5, 2009.

Incoming 9th Grade Summer Reading List

• To attend Bellaire HS, you must live in the BHS attendance zone or be accepted to the Bellaire HS Magnet Program.
• To confirm that your zoned high school is Bellaire High School, please visit www.houstonisd.org . Click on “Parent Information” then ”School Zone Search Tool.”
• Please contact your zoned high school for information if Bellaire is not your zoned school.
• Students interested in Vanguard Classes (Pre AP, AP, IB) should read the information here. There are no IB transfers.
• If you are in 8th grade, live in the BHS attendance zone, and currently attend an HISD middle school that feeds into BHS, Bellaire counselors will come to your school to help you choose classes for 9th grade.
• We will be at Johnston MS, Long MS, Lanier MS, Rice School, T.H. Rogers MS, and Pershing MS in the spring. A list of other middle schools and dates will be on this page as soon as those dates have been confirmed. The dates are listed on our calendar site.
• If you are in 8th grade, live in the BHS attendance zone, and currently attend a private school, Bellaire HS will have an enrollment night in the spring. That date will be announced later. Please have all the required documents with you. You can get a list of what is needed here.
• If you are in 8th grade and do not live in the BHS attendance zone, you must go through the Magnet Office for a transfer. The application process is explained on the Magnet page. The application deadline is January 9, 2009. BHS requires an additional exam during the week of January 12-16.
• The Modern Language Aptitude Test will be given on the Bellaire campus every afternoon January 12-16, 2009. No appointment is necessary. Students need #2 pencils and must show picture ID. Parent notification letters will be mailed on March 27, 2009, and parents will have until April 7, 2009, to respond. Bellaire HS will have an enrollment night for magnet students in the spring. That date will be on this page as soon as it has been confirmed.
• All students will have the opportunity to participate in advanced classes, athletics, and other extra-curricular activities.

 

Tips for Eighth Graders from Current Ninth Grade Students


• Tell teachers if you know you’re going to be absent so you can get makeup work.
• Do homework as soon as you can. Don’t let it pile up.
• Pay attention in class.
• Try to get to class early. Don’t be late. Detention is no fun.
• If you do miss a test, make arrangements immediately with your teacher to make it up.
• Stay focused and try hard.
• Study more.
• It’s important to be organized.
• Try not to be absent. It’s hard to make up work.
• Get help in tutorials. Don’t wait!
• Take notes in class. They help you remember what was discussed in class.
• If you ever have a problem at school, go see your counselor.
• Don’t stress, because everything will work out in the end.
• There is much more homework in high school than middle school.
• Honors classes are very difficult. If you sign up for these classes, be prepared to work!
• Join clubs. (All clubs are listed on our website.) Get involved in activities both inside and outside of school.
