Title I is a federally-funded program.  The purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and State academic assessments.  This is Bellaire’s fourth year as a Title I school-wide program.  Because we are a school-wide program,  ALL students are Title I students and are eligible for services through Title I.   Bellaire qualifies as a Title I school based on the percentage of students on free/reduced lunch, which was 46.8% for 2012 – 2013.

The intent of Title I is to use funds to supplement, not supplant; to provide extra services, instructional materials, etc., not core requirements. Bellaire’s Title I program provides funding for additional staff; one 10 month Social Worker and one 11 month counselor.   As Title I Coordinator I work with teachers and staff to provide interventions to those students who need additional help in passing the TAKS or the new STAAR.  Parental Involvement is another big part of Title I.
